Delectable Wrapped and Fried Things

A mother and daughter team came to the suburb of Sacre Coeur 3 every evening in Dakar to peddle their delicious fataya, the Senegalese version of a dumpling or empanada.

Walking to their corner many nights, there was always the possibility they would sell out, so you had to show up early to make sure. Their popularity seemed to be legend, and their product should make them famous. For now, they are still our little secret.

Another wrapped delight were
nem, a Senegalese take on a Vietnamese spring roll. This version of course was made from beef and not pork, but was served wrapped in lettuce and full of vermicelli noodles.

Needless to say, I was never dissatisfied when the meal was on of these two items.
